The Ministry of Commerce is the first government body able to benefit from a Batelco e-commerce solution, representing yet another step towards Bahrain's development of e-Government.

The solution, branded by Batelco as @ltijara.com, is a payment gateway that processes the purchase of goods and services over the Internet by using credit or charge cards online. One early benefit is that it will enable Bahrain businesses to renew commercial registrations by using the Ministry of Commerce website on the Internet.

Another major contribution to Bahrain's e-Government plans was made by Batelco recently when it devised a network solution for the Government's Central Statistics Office – a development that will pave the way to a high-speed information highway connecting the ministries of the nation.

Payments via @ltijara.com will be initially limited to American Express cards. But Batelco expects to make agreements with VISA and MasterCard to widen online payment options. The Kwikserve payment machines, currently being rolled out across the Kingdom to allow Batelco customers to make hassle-free payments of their bills, also use the @ltijara.com e-commerce solution, enabling people to pay by credit card and certain ATM cards. — (menareport.com)
