Bahrain now has access to BlackBerry®, the wireless, multi-ability device that gives automatic email delivery.

This makes the Kingdom’s business community the first in the region to have access to the handheld communications tool. Batelco is the first telecommunications provider in the GCC to make the BlackBerry device available to the public.

BlackBerry, from Research in Motion (RIM), the leading designer and manufacturer of innovative wireless solutions, has been called “a must-have business tool”, according to Ahmed Al Janahi, Batelco’s Corporate Affairs General Manager.

“BlackBerry has established itself as a must-have business tool for corporate executives who have realised that staying in touch is essential in this fast-moving global economy,” said Al Janahi.

He confirmed that Bahrain’s public have immediate access to the BlackBerry 8700g™, a quad-band device that operates on Batelco’s Batelco’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network.

“Crucially for today’s business world, the BlackBerry 8700g gives fast-performance, seamless access to time-sensitive information, including email, phone, SMS messaging, Internet and intranet-based applications,” he explained.

In addition to giving flexibility to view corporate files, global address books, reading and replying to emails and viewing attachments while on the move, BlackBerry can also be customised by building specific applications on demand for specific business requirements.

The BlackBerry mobile connectivity solution is available from all 17 Batelco shops, and for businesses through the Batelco corporate account team.

“This year (2006) marks 25 years of service by Batelco to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region-first launch of BlackBerry is an example the our determination to continue our pioneering service delivery,” concluded Al Janahi.

He added that BlackBerry has taken the global business world by storm since its launch in 2004 with currently more the 5.5 million subscribers worldwide.

Recently Batelco launched another first, with the most economic broadband internet service in the region at BD 10.
