Batelco has signed bilateral commercial GPRS and MMS roaming agreement with Etihad Etisalat Company in Saudi Arabia, giving customers - who are traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - the ability to stay in touch with family, friends and colleagues via a host of extra mobile services including pictures messaging, video clips, email and access to the Internet.

By virtue of this agreement, which takes effect today Tuesday, August 23, 2005, Batelco’s Freetime and Valuetime (postpaid) mobile customers - who have MMS enabled handsets with MMS/GPRS settings - will be able to use the full service while traveling to Saudi Arabia. Similarly, visitors from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will also be able to make use of MMS and GPRS links to stay in touch with their families, friends and business colleagues while visiting Bahrain.

“This agreement will not only provide customers with convenience when making their communication, but will also contribute to further strengthening the unique brotherly ties between the people of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia,” explains Hamza Ali, Senior Manager – Mobile Services at Batelco.

“GPRS/MMS service enables customers to send and receive MMS messages and browse the Internet through GPRS directly from their mobile phones whilst traveling,” adds Hamza.

Batelco has offered the MMS service to customers within Bahrain since 2003, and since early 2004, the company has announced MMS interconnect agreements with global telcos, which enabled the use of MMS messaging between customers of Batelco and companies operating in those geographies.

“This agreement will make our customers’ life more exciting when communicating with their loved ones while roaming. Whether it’s surfing the net for news, sending pictures or checking their emails via their mobile phones, Batelco will make communicating even more enjoyable, fun and convenient for all users,” concludes Hamza.

Today, Batelco has GPRS roaming agreements with 11 networks in 9 countries.
