Iraq and Belarus are to sign an accord on direct air links between Baghdad and Minsk, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Zametalin said in Baghdad Friday, April 27.
"My visit to Iraq will be the occasion for the signing of an accord to establish a direct air link," he said, quoted by the official news agency INA .
Zametalin, whose country supports a lifting of the decade-old UN embargo on Iraq, flew in to Baghdad on Thursday at the head of an 80-strong delegation, mostly businessmen.
Dozens of Arab and European planes have landed in Baghdad since the reopening of Saddam International Airport in August 2000, despite the embargo slapped on Iraq for its 1990 invasion of Kuwait. — (AFP, Baghdad)
