Amex (Saudi Arabia) reported that American Express Cards are now accepted at point-of-sale terminals in many establishments throughout the Kingdom, including shops, supermarkets, restaurants and hospitals.

"The old manual form of transaction, which involves hand-written entries, is gradually being replaced throughout the Kingdom," said Head of Sales and Merchant Marketing of Amex (Saudi Arabia), Fahad Al-Guthami. "American Express Cardmembers benefit from less waiting time and easy-to-read receipts, while merchants receive direct settlement into their bank account."

Retail outlets that electronically process American Express Cards include all shops and boutiques of Rubaiyat, more than 450 Al-Hokair shops and boutiques, Al-Hama boutiques, Abdullah Al-Sayed men's, women's and children's shops, Gazzaz, Anwal United Trading Company shops, Bugshan Perfumes, Boutique Nadia in Jeddah, and Saudi House stores in Riyadh and Al-Khobar. Jewellers include Al-Romaizan Gold Shops and Al-Kamees Jewellery in Riyadh.

Supermarkets with electronic point-of-sale terminals at checkouts include Danube, Giant Stores, Sawary Superstores, Watani Superstores, and 132 branches of Meed Markets across the Kingdom. Restaurants include the Pizza Hut in Riyadh and Al-Khobar. American Express Cards are electronically processed at 120 branches of Al-Tayyar Travel, and at a number of hospitals including Al-Mishari Hospital in Riyadh

Amex (Saudi Arabia) was established in 1999, with headquarters in Riyadh, to ensure that American Express is strategically positioned to provide products and services that meet the needs of customers and merchants in the Kingdom. Amex (Saudi Arabia) was established as a joint venture company equally owned by Amex (Middle East) and the Saudi Investment Bank.
