ALBAWABA – The Boeing Company, the world's largest aerospace and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners, defense, space, and security systems, announced plans of laying off approximately 10% of its employees in the coming few months.
Boeing lays off employees
Kelly Ortberg, CEO of Boeing, informed the employees on Friday that the company is planning to lay off about 10% of its workforce in the coming few months.
“Our business is in a difficult position, and it is hard to overstate the challenges we face together. Beyond navigating our current environment, restoring our company requires tough decisions and we will have to make structural changes to ensure we can stay competitive and deliver for our customers over the long term,” Ortberg stated in his latest announcement to the company’s employees.

The company did not specify the total number of layoffs, but Boeing employs 171,000 people worldwide, with 147,000 based in the United States as of 2024.
Boeing recent challenges
It is worth noting that Ortberg joined Boeing as CEO just two months ago. The company is currently dealing with significant challenges, including a strike involving around 33,000 employees.
Additionally, Boeing recorded over $33 billion in losses in the past five years, faced multiple safety incidents, and encountered increased regulations from authorities.
In the past five years, Boeing faced various challenges, including two fatal crashes involving its best-selling 737 Max in 2018 and 2019. Additionally, 2020 was particularly tough for the company due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to CNN.
