Borealis, a leading provider of innovative plastics solutions, has launched the Bormed TD109CF, its latest high quality film for the healthcare industry in the region. The film will be made available exclusively through Borouge, sole distributor for Borealis' speciality polyolefins in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
The new grade Bormed TD109CF is a polypropylene (PP) sealing material that combines processing advantages with high transparency, purity, excellent sealing behaviour and sterilisability, and is the latest addition to Borealis’ Bormed range of dedicated healthcare polyolefins.
Commenting on the new film, Peter Niedersüß, Product Development Engineer for Borealis' film business, said: "Until now, converters had to look towards highly expensive compounds in order to achieve sealing films with excellent sealing behaviour, high clarity, high purity and sterilisability, which are key attributes for film sealants in the medical industry. Bormed TD109CF delivers these benefits directly without compromising on the performance of the end-product."
The Bormed TD109CF is best suited for end uses such as pouches and form-fill-seal (FFS) film--the sealable layer for lids in the packaging of medical devices and lid films for blister packaging. With this new grade, Borealis broadens its innovative range of solutions for the medical film industry.
Bormed TD109CF fulfils the need of the medical industry for pure polymers due to its low solubles and extractables. Improved production efficiency results in lower costs. In co-extruded films, Bormed TD109CF's typical broad sealing window of approximately 35 degrees Celsius allows converters to seal different films on the packaging line, without having to adjust sealing parameters, thus improving the speed of production.
Its low sealing initiation temperatures in the range of 103 degrees Celsius to 105 degrees Celsius deliver reduced cycle times, leading to an increase in line speed and offer the potential for increased production volumes. This new grade can be processed by cast-, tubular quench-, and blown film technologies.
Additionally, Bormed TD109CF offers consistent quality and suitability for healthcare applications that are key features of Borealis' Bormed range. Its broad spectrum of healthcare properties include transparency, chemical inertness, sterilisability at 121 degrees Celsius and environmental stress cracking resistance; its contamination-free quality provides strict, controlled processing conditions and its long-term supply is assured globally. The film also meets relevant legal requirements for the medical and pharmaceutical industries, including Pharmacopoea and FDA approval.
Borealis has more than 40 years experience in providing advanced polyolefin solutions for industries that use film, coating and thermoforming products. With foresight throughout the value chain and a focus on customer needs, Borealis continues to provide innovative, value-adding PP and polyethylene solutions for the film industry.
