BP Sharjah has achieved 99.75 percent recovery of propane and essentially 100 percent recovery of butane and condensate at its plant in Sajaa, which it operates on behalf of a joint venture with the government of Sharjah.

The original plant design envisaged a propane recovery level of only 92.5 percent and the record was broken in August. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) recovery levels are generally lower during the summer months.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest recovery rate ever recorded for propane recovery with ethane rejection,” said president and general manager of BP Sharjah, Abdul Karim Al Mazmi.

The record recovery was achieved following of a warm-up operation to remove hydrates from the system, optimizing the utilization of the LPG plant capacity, and by a rearrangement of the process flows.

The average recovery over a 15-day period was maintained at 99.6 percent. This equates to a production increase of 500 barrels per day, or in revenue terms, about $10,000 per day. — (menareport.com)
