Business Software Alliance, the organization that represents the interests of global software developers, has hailed the advances made by Jordan in Information Technology and commended the authorities' efforts in protecting Intellectual Property Rights of software developers.

"It is heartening that the IT development in Jordan is going hand in hand with initiatives to encourage the use of original software across all businesses. This environment will definitely result in making Jordan an ideal IT investment destination & will help the flourishing IT industry in creating IT professionals who have the support to create advanced software solutions and thus raise the image of Jordan as a high-class IT catalyst in the region," said Jawad Al Redha, Co-chairman, Business Software Alliance.

"One of the catalysts in bringing about this change in Jordan is Mr. Ma'amoun Al Talhouni, director general of Jordanian National Library. The Jordanian National Library has constantly championed the cause of protecting Intellectual Property Rights of software developers through a series of forums & seminars. This has resulted in raising awareness about IPR thereby creating an environment conducive to promoting use of Original Software," added Al Redha.

"One of the essential requirements for the growth of IT industry is respect to intellectual property rights. Jordan has been aggressively promoting the importance of using original software in all systems because Jordanians being highly skilled in software development understand too well the value of copyrighted software," said Ma'amoun Al Talhouni, director general of Jordanian National Library. "The authorities in Jordan are putting a great

deal of effort into encouraging businesses and the government sector to combat piracy by using only original software. The Prime Minister of Jordan has recently issued a circular to all ministries and Government departments to comply with the IPR law & use only legal software. Thus the Government has set an example in IPR for the private sector to follow in copyrights in general & software in specific"

"Jordanian software developers are among the best in the Arab world. They have demonstrated that human capital is more valuable than financial resources and this is mirrored in the increasing foreign investment in IT and the growing number of IT-related businesses in Jordan," added Al Redha. "The Jordanian public sector as well as private companies are collaborating very effectively in helping Jordan attain new levels of excellence in the Information Technology industry."
