BSE transactions last month totaled $21 million

The Bahrain Stock Exchange (BSE) index for June closed at 1,953.43 points, marking an increase of 86.21 points above last month’s closing index. Results indicated that 1,426 transactions took place with a volume of 25.384,103 shares worth 7.928 million Bahraini dinars ($21 million), according to the BSE monthly report. 

 

Out of 43 companies listed on the Stock Exchange, 29 were active, with a percentage of 67 percent divided on five companies in the Commercial Bank Sector, five companies in the Investment Sector, four in the Insurance Sector, seven in the Service Sector, two in the Industrial Sector, four in the Hotel and Tourism Sector and two in the Non–Bahraini Company Sector. A total of 22 companies posted an increase in share prices; three companies suffered a decrease in share prices with the rest of the companies’ prices remaining stable. 

 

The Sector Service, Commercial Bank Sector and the Non- Bahraini Company Sector were registered as the most of the month’s activities. In the Service Sector, the value of shares traded totaled BD 3.616 million or 46 percent of the total value of shares traded in June. The volume of shares traded reached 6,655,672 constituting 26 percent of the volume of shares traded. The actual number of transactions performed by investors in this sector totaled 628 or 44 percent of the total number of shares traded. 

 

In the Commercial Bank Sector, the value of shares traded totaled BD 2.103 million or 27 percent of the total value of shares traded in June. The volume of shares traded reached 10,519,679 constituting 41 percent of the volume of shares traded. The actual number of transactions performed by investors in this sector totaled 414 representing 29 percent of the total number of shares traded. 

 

In the Non- Bahraini Company, the value of shares traded totaled BD 881,223 representing 11 percent of the total value of shares traded in June. The volume of shares traded reached 156,629 or 0.6 percent of the volume of shares traded. The actual number of transactions performed by investors in this sector totaled 46 or three percent of the total number of shares traded. 

 

Based on 22 trading days, the approximate daily average value of trade in shares totaled BD 360,376. The daily average volume of trade in shares reached 1,153,823 with a daily average of 65 transactions.  

 

BSE was established in 1987. Starting off with 29 listed companies in 1989; this figure grew to 41 in 2000 and included the first non-GCC company to list in the region. — (menareport.com)
