BYD debuts its first electric supercar and most expensive model yet, taking aim at luxury car makers Ferrari and Lamborghini

ALBAWABA – The Chinese Electric Vehicle manufacturer BYD has debuted its all electric high-performance YangWang U9 supercar at 1.68 million Yuan (~236,000 US Dollars), its most expensive car to date, competing with luxury brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini.

The all-electric roadster, which was revealed almost a year ago, can drive on three wheels, hop, and dance thanks to BYD's Disus X suspension technology, which is installed on the e4 framework. The EV is propelled by four electric motors that have a combined output of 960 kW (1287 hp) and a maximum torque of 1,680 Nm.

During a live stream from Shanghai, China, the world’s biggest EV seller revealed the YangWang U9 can hit a max speed of 309.19kmH (192.12MpH) and reach 100km\h (62MpH) in 2.36 seconds as well as drag race for 400 meters in 9.78 seconds, launching exclusively in China in its initial release.

In contrast to other high-end vehicles, the vehicle uses a BYD lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery pack instead of an NCM chemical battery, with 80kWh capacity that lasts for 465km of CLTC range, according to Car News China. It also utilizes a 800V architecture and takes ten minutes to fully charge from 30% to 80% with dual charging support, which allows drivers to connect two separate charging guns at once like the BYD Denza D9 and N7 models.

Buyers who desire to own U9 have to make a non-refundable deposit of 300,000 yuan with pre-orders open today. A 6-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty is being offered by BYD.
