Saudi Arabia national carrier, Saudi Telecommunication Company (STC), has awarded an 87 million Saudi riyal ($23 million) contract to the Canadian SR Telecom Company, for the installation of 24,000 new telephone lines, reported Al-Watan daily.

SR Telecom will supply its point-to-multipoint fixed wireless systems for rural telephony on a turnkey basis. Under the contract, finalized at the beginning of July, the Canadian firm is to complete the installation within an 18 months period.

This recent contract is part of a larger network expansion scheme, implemented by several foreign telecom firms, for the installation of a total of 450,000 telephone lines throughout the Kingdom, according to Saudi Telecommunication Company (STC) marketing manager, Salah Jassir. — (Mena Report)
