The Canadian consumer price index increased 0.2% in March amid expectations for a 0.3% rise, while the annualized reading for inflation unexpectedly slipped to 1.2% from 1.4% in the previous month. Meanwhile, core prices crossed the wires strong than expected as the index rose 0.3% from February, while they increased 2.0% from the previous year, and the breakdown of the report showed that prices for clothing and shoes increased 2.2%, while the cost of food increased another 0.2% following the 0.5% rise in the previous month.
