Office and information technology (IT) provider Canon is the first major Japanese corporation to establish headquarters at Dubai Internet City (DIC), having inaugurated the facility last week.

The opening of the new regional headquarters mark a milestone for Canon in the Middle East, after moving to full subsidiary status and opening its logistics hub at the Jebel Ali Free Zone last year.

“Canon has been present in the Middle East through its distributors for over forty years. With the new Canon Building at DIC, we can truly say that we have opened a new chapter, strengthening our presence and our commitment to this region,” said Hajime Tsuruoka, president and CEO of Canon Europe.

Working in conjunction with the logistics facility at the Jebel Ali Free Zone, the new headquarters will be Canon’s base for its regional channel and product management, sales and technical support, as well as for training, technical support and regional marketing.

Over the past year Canon Middle East has doubled its staff complement and has ambitious plans for future growth following its impressive 38 percent year-on-year sales growth for financial year 2001.

Canon Middle East’s new headquarters at DIC will allow it to build closer relationships with other high-tech companies, exploring partnerships that will allow Canon’s office and consumer products to be integrated with technologies from software, hardware and networking companies to complement Canon’s philosophy of Imaging Across Networks.

Canon is an international manufacturer of imaging solutions for individuals and businesses. The company operates in two clearly defined markets: Consumer Business Solutions (color and black & white copiers, color laser beam printers, document image management systems, projector and software solution) and Consumer Imaging Product (photo, video and digital camera products, printers, scanners, fax, personal copiers and calculators). Canon employs more than 80,000 people around the world. — (menareport.com)
