One of the sectors that experience a direct benefit of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) is the Cargo sector. “We recorded a sudden increase in demand for the cargo space as early as December 2002, during which we recorded an increase of 25 percent as compared to last December 2001”, said Deputy Manager of Dubai Cargo Village, Khadiya.
“Cargo, regardless of air, sea and land freight witnesses an annual increase during Dubai Shopping Festival, given that visitors from GCC and other nations are attracted to Dubai due to the excellent shopping offers available in the city,” added Khadiya.
“During the month of December, we experienced a 23.9 percent increase in container demand as compared to last month with total load increasing to 55,000 tons. This figure is expected to be 52,000 tons towards January end, and we expect that it will increase by 15 percent in February. This increase in figures is comparatively higher than the figures achieved last year.”
DSF is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from January 15 to February 15, 2003. The 32-day long festivities offer tax-free shopping and low import duties. — (menareport.com)
