The Moroccan Minister of Tourism, the Craft industry and Social Economy, Adil Douiri, presented recently the ministry's strategy for promoting Casablanca's internal tourism towards 2010. The plan was introduced at a press conference held under the title "What is the strategy for internal tourism" and was attended by a number of representatives from the national Federation of Tourism, travel agencies and the Regional Council of Tourism.
The minister presented a three-phase plan (2003-2005, 2005-2006 and 2007 and on) aimed at increasing the number of nights tourists spend in hotels in the city, modernizing and improving the possibility to track vacancies and prices in hotels and establishing new family-oriented tourist establishments (such as camp-sites and vacation villages for families). This new strategy was based on a survey, which included 6,000 people. According to the findings, 73% of local tourists prefer lodging in such family-oriented place.
EMarrakech reports that the main objective of this three-year plan is to double the current number of internal tourists, during holidays, from 1.1 million to 2 million in 2010.
