Close circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems will be installed in Ajman to help police and other security forces keep an eye on the public to enhance security and prevent crimes.
The best and latest type of surveillance cameras will be used on Ajman roads, as part of Ajman Police’s ambitious project titled Ajman Dar Al Aman, which translates into âAjman is a safe city’.
Details about the project were unveiled during a press meeting chaired by Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police.
Around 200-250 video cameras will be installed on key roads and vital locations in the emirate.
The project’s study time involved a test run of surveillance cameras to check for their efficiency and performance and the go-ahead was issued after obtaining satisfactory results.
The police said that it will seek the cooperation of business premises and owners of buildings and hotels to install the new cameras and those who do not cooperate with the authorities will be penalised.
The infrastructure hardware and software has been tailored to suit the specific needs of the Ajman Police Department and, following the roll-out, Ajman Police will have deeper and wider coverage, improved rapid response, sharper investigation and evidence tracking abilities, as well as increased transparency.
The cameras will be connected to Ajman Police’s operations room and give regular updates about road safety and traffic flow.
The cameras will be used in various fields, including reading faces of wanted people, car number plates and monitoring traffic flow. Police patrols will also be equipped with these cameras.
The Ajman Dar Al Aman project will contribute to achieving the objectives of the police to ensure the safety of the emirate by using the latest security techniques.
