American energy giant ChevronTexaco Corporation will seek commercial quantities of hydrocarbons in Bahrain's eastern offshore. The exploratory drilling will commence in September 2002 and the development of an offshore field is hoped to closely follow.
Last year, the Bahraini government granted an offshore oil and gas exploration and production license to Texaco. Malaysia's Petronas will explore two other blocks in the offshore zone, starting in October 2002.
Chevron and Texaco merged last October to form ChevronTexaco Corp. with the headquarters in San Francisco. Chevron was the company that first discovered oil in Bahrain in 1932. — (menareport.com)
