Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Monday, November 19 that Beijing would strengthen its "friendship and cooperation" with Arab countries, state media reported.
Tang told his visiting Tunisian counterpart, Habib Ben Yahia, that China would make concerted efforts to strengthen its ties with the Arab world and "expand their friendly cooperation of mutual benefit", the Xinhau news agency said.
Tang also called for the United Nations and the Security Council to play a bigger role in rooting out terrorism and for "terrorist activities and their roots" to be given "proper treatment". With both stressing that terrorism could only be curbed through international cooperation, the two ministers signed a bilateral extradition treaty on behalf of their respective governments.
The Tunisian minister, who arrived in Beijing on Sunday, pledged to continue the "traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries" and its "efforts to increase bilateral cooperation in various fields", Xinhua said. — (AFP, Beijing)
