ALBAWABA – China announced the completion and testing of its first world’s largest cargo drone earlier this week. The cargo completed its first test flight with the aim of expanding the low-altitude economy.

The new Chinese cargo drone has two engines with a wingspan of 16.1 meters (52.8 feet), a height of 4.6 meters, and a cargo area of 12 cubic meters (423 cubic feet). The payload capacity of the cargo drone is estimated to be around 2 tons, according to China Central Television (CCTV).

South China Morning Post Newspaper (SCMP) said the new cargo drone is the largest developed domestically and it is designed to meet the demands of the Chinese market.

It is worth mentioning that the cargo drone design is made for easy loading and unloading processes and it provides great reliability and safety measures. This invention is expected to support the Chinese expansion of air cargo services and the low-altitude economy.

Low-altitude flight is known for flight at an altitude of up to 1000 meters above the ground. It includes various sectors like passenger transportation, cargo delivery, manufacturing, low-altitude flight operations, and integrated services.

Song Zhiyong, Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), announced last month that around 14,000 companies and 225,000 individuals obtained drone operation licenses.

Analysts are forecasting a significant boost to the Chinese economy, driven by the new cargo drones, predicting it will reach 2 trillion yuan by 2030.
