Speaking to the Izmir Chamber of Commerce at an event held ahead of the 70th International Izmir Fair, China’s ambassador to Turkey, Yao Kuangy, has bemoaned the “insufficient” volume of trade between China and Turkey.

The Chinese report the volume of bilateral trade to be one billion dollars, whereas according to the Turkish trade figures it is worth almost $1.2 billion.

But, said Kuangy,”[I]n both situations, it is true that the trade volume between our two countries is not at the desired level.” Kuangy said that his government would like to increase the bilateral trade volume to $470 billion, of which $200 billion will be made up of imports from China.

China intends to operate a pavilion at the upcoming Izmir event. Many Chinese businessmen have expressed readiness to travel to Izmir to visit the fair, Kuangy stated. — (MENA report)
