Her Majesty Queen Rania has inaugurated a new Head Office in Shmeisani for the Citibank, a leading financial institution voted as the “best offshore” bank in Jordan for the year 2000.

In a reception attended last week by key officials, private entrepreneurs, heads of political missions in Amman and major Citibank customers, the Bank's General Manager in Jordan Suhair Al-Ali Dabbas reiterated its commitment to help off-shoring the Kingdom's financial status.

“Citibank has long been committed to its business and people in the Middle East and Jordan,” Al-Ali Dabbas told the audience.

In addition to the bank's commercial activities and servicing the “valued customer base,” Citibank also serves as an “important training ground for several local bankers”, she added.

The Citibank GM shed some light on this financial institution's activities in the Kingdom. She pointed to the fact that Citibank has recently acted as financial advisor to a Spanish company, Aldeasa, in its successful $60 million bid to acquire the Jordan Airports Duty Free Shops. Last week, the Bank also led along with the Arab Bank and SociÈtÈ General a $116 million dual currency facility to Mobilecom.

According to Al-Ali Dabbas, Citibank Jordan was named “Best Foreign Bank” in the Kingdom for the year 2000 by Euromoney Magazine's Awards for Excellence. Likewise, it was named “Best Foreign Bank in the Middle East and Africa amongst a large number of awards on the regional and international arenas.”

Citigroup, the international flagship with $717 billion in assets, generated revenues exceeding $82 billion in 1999. The Bank's net income was set at $9.9 billion in the same year, making it the most global financial service company in the world.

The parent company provides some 100 million customers, corporations, governments and institutions in over 100 countries with a broad range of financial products and services. — ( Jordan Times )
