Colas Company, a subsidiary of the French firm Bouygues, have won a contract to build a highway in Morocco, near Casablanca. The new road will be paved between the cities of Al-Mohmadiya and Settat, which is 28 kilometres. The feasibility study suggests that this project will cost approximately $42 million. The motorway will take 31 months to build.
According to the planners, the highway will have many advantages, including facilitating the movement of primary goods from Settat to Al-Mohmadiya. Companies such as Nestle and Coral located in Al-Mohmadiya are likely to benefit from this new venture.
Colas has been instrumental in the construction industry within Morocco; to illustrate, it was contracted to provide a runway at the new airport at Nador last year. In addition, the company last week was awarded another contract to build a 15km highway between Sidi el Yamani and Asilah.
Colas has been in the construction industry for over 75 years and was one of the first firms to apply and receive a patent for “Cold Ashphalt” which is an emulsion designed exclusively for road surfacing. The corporation has more than 126 emulsion plants, and is the second largest emulsion manufacturer in the world. This multinational is responsible for improving road infrastructure by developing new and improved materials. Colas has also invested in practices which has allowed them to gain the edge in an ever increasing competitive market. The subsidiary uses proven techniques, state of the art technology and equipment which does not depreciate and costs little to maintain.
