The first phase of construction on a 57,000 square meter plot of land in Abu Dhabi for the first-ever caviar production project in the UAE will reportedly be completed within 16 months, enabling the production of 32 tons per year of high quality Osietra caviar.

The Dh200 million project was launched on Saturday by Bin Salem GTE, one of the prominent groups of trading companies in the Abu Dhabi Industrial city, according to Khaleej Times. The unique project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Northern Africa, and is expected to help reduce the growing supply gap in the region, estimated at around 400 ton per year.

Upon the completion of the first phase of the project, said CEO Bin Salem, an estimated production capacity of 693 metric tons of sliced & smoked high quality fish products will also be unfolded. The products will reportedly be marketed locally, in the GCC as well as in Europe and the United States.

The caviar will be produced according to international standards in coordination with United Food Technologies, AG Germany, one of the world leaders for engineering, design, construction and operation of live fish aquaculture plants.

The Dh200 million contract was signed by Chief Executive Officer of Bin Salem GTE, Ahmad Mohd Salem Al Dhaheri, and his counterpart at United Food Technologies AG. Germany, C. Hartung.
