Work on the "Friendship Causeway" connecting Bahrain and Qatar may be given the go-ahead at a meeting of the high joint co-operation committee set to be held soon.

According to GDN, the final route of the causeway has been chosen from 10 options, said Bahrain's Works and Housing Assistant Under-Secretary Essam Khalaf. It will start at Askar village continue along the Bahrain eastern coastline and end at Ras Ashiraj in Qatar.

The 40km double-lane causeway will cost up to BD1.8 billion and take four years and nine months to complete.

Construction work will take up 60 per cent of the cost compared with 40pc for reclamation work.
