Cotton harvesting begins in Fayum

With the official opening of the cotton harvesting season in Egypt’s Al-Fayum district, ­Southwest of Cairo, the minister of land reclamation and agriculture, Yusuf Walli, estimated the region’s per feddan productivity rate will stand on at 7.5 cantars, according to Al-Ahram daily.  

 

Walli added that some 120,000 feddan were allocated this year to planting long cotton, a species usually directed at expoert to foreign markets. Egypt plans to export 1.5 million cantars of cotton to 40 different countries this year.  

 

One cantar of ginned cotton equals 50 kilograms. — (MENA Report)
