Devon Energy discovers oil in Indonesia

Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy discovered oil in onshore and offshore wells in Indonesia. The North Gemah-1 well in Sumatra's Jabung block tested a combined 29 MMcf of gas plus 1,000 b/d of condensate from several zones.

The well is operated by Santa Fe Energy Resources (Jabung), a Devon subsidiary. The other discovery, the KOI-1 well on Salawati Island offshore Irian Jaya, tested 900 b/d of oil plus 2.5 MMcf/d of gas from two intervals. The discovery is located in about 105 feet of water.

This well expands the offshore exploration potential in the area of the existing TBA and TBC discoveries. Devon Energy merged with Santa Fe Snyder Energy earlier this year.
