DHL Worldwide Express, the global market leader of the international air express industry, has welcomed the announcement made by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) heads of states following their annual summit in Qatar, confirming the implementation of the customs union as of January 1, 2003.
The company's Middle East Regional Director, Phil Couchman, explained that the company has been awaiting such a decision with great anticipation. “Intra-Gulf trade will further be facilitated through the common tariff. The process by which we move goods in the region will be further simplified and streamlined. Having experienced this in the past with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union (EU), we are fully geared up for the implementation of the new customs union which we have been anticipating for some time,” he explained.
DHL Worldwide Express is currently the only delivery and logistics company in the Middle East that owns and operates its own fleet out of Bahrain International Airport. The fleet consists of seven aircrafts along with an extensive transport network that includes heavy vehicles and facilities.
DHL Middle East is the first air express company to operate in the region, in 1975. Four years later it established the region's first air express airline and was the first to register its freighter aircraft in the Gulf. — (menareport.com)
