The value of the American direct investments in Egypt increased to $2.735 billion in 2000, up from $2.190 billion in the previous year of 1999.
These figures translate into a 25 percent climb, making Egypt the fourth largest recipient in the Middle East of American direct investments, according to Al-Hayat daily.
Saudi Arabia, which received $4.184 billion in 2000, ranked first, Algeria ranked second with $3.339 billion, and Israel came in third with $3.2 billion during the year 2000.
Egyptian officials have stated their intent to raise this figure to $3 billion in the future, which will represent four percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). –(Mena Report)
