Dubai based-information technology (IT) solution developer, Eastern Networks has installed an advanced web-enabled ID Card Management System (IDM) for the newly launched e-Gate project, which has been developed by Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD).

The project offers quick access to Dubai International Airport through a smart card. Eastern Networks is one of the few private companies directly involved in the project that has been largely developed by the IT section of DNRD.

“The e-Gate project is the result of over 10 months of concerted efforts by the staff in our IT department and has been devised using cutting edge technologies that ensure accuracy and speed. Since the entire plan had been conceptualized in-house, we did not have to outsource much of the components,” Head of IT Section, DNRD, Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Majid Lootah,

Eastern Networks has provided DNRD with web-enabled Mifare Contactless ID/Card Management System (IDM), which includes Electron plastic card printers, Mifare smart chip cards with lamination that include ultra violet and micro-printing security features, e-Card design, HID Mifare card readers and supplies such as ribbons and hologram laminations.

The e-Gate project at Dubai International Airport utilizes the concepts of smart card identification and finger printing identification to automate the registration process. First time users can register at the enrolment office set up at the airport. Once registered, users are supplied with a smart card that will enable them to enter and exit the Dubai International Airport without delay.

The electronic gates will function alongside the manual ones, giving people an option to choose either form of entry or exit. The DNRD has launched a major campaign to create awareness of the system among residents and visitors alike. — (menareport.com)
