Dutch geotechnical firm Fugro, has recently won four environmental study contracts involving technical surveys and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for Qatar’s Dolphin Energy (DEL) gas project. The project, worth five million dollars, will span over a period of eight months.

Fugro will carry out the route survey and EIA of the offshore pipeline as well as that of the onshore facilities at Ras Laffan in Qatar, Taweelah in Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in Dubai, a company statement confirmed.

DEL’s pipeline project, estimated at an overall cost of $10 billion, will transport gas by an undersea channel from Qatar to the Abu Dhabi coast. The gas will be distributed inside Abu Dhabi and neighboring Dubai through an existing set of connections. The pipeline will continue overland to Oman and Pakistan through an undersea channel, which is expected to increase the project’s cost by three billion dollars.

Fugro Middle East was established in the United Arab Emirates in 1975, initially, as a geotechnical and foundation engineering organization. Today, Fugro provides a complete range of geotechnical, materials testing, surveying and mapping services throughout the Gulf area, India and Pakistan.

In Abu Dhabi, Fugro’s major oil industry clients are ADNOC, ADCO, ADMA OPCO and ZADCO, whereas in the public sector direct or indirect projects are carried out for the Public Works Department (PWD), Sewerage and Projects Committee (SPC) and Water and Electricity Department (WED).

With its headquarters in Amsterdam, Fugro Middle East maintains operating offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, with project offices available through agency and joint venture organizations in Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran and Yemen. — (menareport.com)
