(MEBG) – BG International has announced the successful completion of the drilling of two appraisal wells in the Simian field, northeast of the Egyptian city of Alexandria, and confirmed the presence of reserves of natural gas, reported Reuters on July 19.

The appraisal wells—Simian-2 and Simian-3—are located 71 and 77 km respectively northeast of Alexandria. They were drilled to test the extent of the Simian field discovery in the Nile Delta in 1999, which then was estimated to yield 44 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

Burullus Gas Co, drilled the two wells. It is a concession operating company that is owned byBG with a 25 percent stake, Edison International SpA with 25 percent, and the state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corp with 50 percent.
