Driving through troubled waters, Automobile Aftermarket industry battles fake parts

The automobile aftermarket industry for spare parts is navigating through troubled waters with the huge influx of fake parts hitting the market every year. The estimated value of the fake parts market is estimated to be over US$ 12 billion worldwide and about US$ 150 to 200 million in the GCC countries alone. Sold at about 60% to 86% of the value of genuine parts the market is causing serious damage to the genuine auto parts industry in the GCC.

 

The 11th international Automotive Aftermarket Middle East 2006 show “AAME 2006” schduled to be held from March 20 – 22, at Dubai World Trade Centre, is the industry platform for manufacturers and suppliers of aftermarket genuine auto parts, garage equipment, Tyres and lubricans to converge, meet, transact business while showcasing their products and services in an attemt to weed out this curse that has been the cause of many a tragic accidents on the fast lanes.

 

The Automotive Aftermarket Middle East 2006, trade show organised by International Expo Consults LLC, represents the interests of the second largest market for second-hand cars in the world!, car and spare parts exports to UAE were estimated to be around AED 18 billion in 2005 and growing at 10% per annum.

 

Speaking on the forthcoming tradeshow Mr. Mohammed Falaknaz, Vice President, International Expo Consults, said, “AAME has grown significantly over the years and has emerged as a convergence point for manufacturers, dealers, distributors and buyers from the Automotive Aftermarket Industry worldwide. Spread across 2 halls & over 2500 square meters, this years showing is 25% higher compared to last year and will feature over 225 companies from 10 countries across the world”.

Surender Singh Kandhari, chairman of first time participant, the Al Dobowi Group said “We are delighted to have joined the Middle East’s one of the oldest Auto Spare Parts and Aftermarket Show.  The Middle East’s Automotive Indutry is estimated to be worth around Dh 18 bllion. In keeping with the commitment of promoting genuine parts and services the event will incorporate industry specific seminars on Lubricants and Tyre rethreading featuring industry expers from the field. The show commencing from the 20th of March is open to trade visitors only and will be open for business between 11 am and 7 pm daily.
