ALBAWABA - Dubai International Airport (DXB), renowned as the world's busiest airport for international travel over the past decade, maintains its growth trajectory, reporting a record-breaking 44.9 million passengers in the first half of the year.

A record 44.9 million travelers passed through the airport's terminals in the first half of 2024, up 8% over the same period in 2023, according to data made public by the airport's operator, Dubai Airports. Furthermore, the 21.8 million passengers registered in Q2 2024 marks a 7.5% increase over the same period in the previous year.

Emirates airlines, which resides at the airport known as DXB, reported record-breaking yearly profits prior to the figures released on Wednesday, as Dubai prepares to relocate operations to a new airport worth approximately $35 billion during the next ten years, AP reports.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths, noted to the Associated Press that prior to the pandemic, “60% of people coming through the airport were actually transiting to other cities and countries. We’ve now got 60% coming to the city and 40% in transit,” highlighting the boom in real estate markets and highest ever tourism numbers as factors in turning the city into a final destination rather than a layover.

“Dubai is at the forefront of global cities when it comes to attracting talent, businesses, and tourists from around the world, and we are proud to be the gateway to the city, driving growth and enhancing the airport experience for every guest,” Griffiths added.

With 91.8 million annual visitors predicted for 2024, the CEO said that Dubai Airports have a very positive view for the rest of the year and are on course to surpass records.
