Dubai Duty Free has reported annual record sales of 1.37 billion Emirati dirhams ($380 million). The new figure represents a 24 percent increase in sales over the previous year, stated a company press release.
The month of December, during which Dubai Duty Free celebrated 20 years of operation, was a record month with sales reaching Dh 149.5 million, representing a 38 percent increase over the same month last year.
December sales were boosted significantly by the 20th anniversary offer of 20 percent discount on the anniversary day itself. On that day, sales soared to Dh 7.1 million, way above the previous daily record of Dh 5.8 million set on October 24.
The annual sales statistics showing strong category increases over 2002. Electronics move into second position after Liquor, with sales of Dh 153 million, representing an increase of 26 percent over last year. Perfumes take up the third position with sales just under Dh 153 million and showing an increase of 27 percent, while Gold holds the fourth position with sales of Dh 146 million, a 17 percent increase over last year. — (menareport.com)
