Dubai Duty Free (DDF) recorded sales of 146 million Emirati dirhams ($40 million) for the month of January, representing a 35 percent increase over the same period last year.
During the month of January daily sales consistently topped four million dirhams, reported a press release. On Friday, January 30, daily sales reached Dh 6.2 million, just below the record sales day set on December 20 last year, when sales were Dh 7.1 million.
In January, top categories including gold, perfumes and electronics showed significant increases. Gold sales for the month reached Dh 17 million accounting for 12 percent of total sales, while both perfumes and electronics reached Dh 16 million with each category accounting for 11 percent of the total monthly sales.
In 2003, DDF recorded nine million sales transactions, which is an average of 24,524 transactions per day. On January 30 this year, the operation recorded 37,710 sales transactions. — (menareport.com)
