Dubai Duty Free (DDF) topped sales of 426 million Emirati dirhams ($118 million) in the first quarter of 2004, a 45 percent increase over sales from the same period last year.

Individual categories showing increases include sunglass sales which increased by 99 percent in the first three months of the year, due to a large extent by the 2003 opening of the new sunglass shop in Sheikh Rashid Terminal, reported a press release. Cameras and accessories have also seen first quarter sales jump by 97 percent, while perfumes and cosmetics have grown by 52 percent and 83 percent respectively.

DDF celebrated 20 years in operation last December. In 2003, the retailer recorded nine million sales transactions, which is an average of 24,524 transactions per day. On January 30 this year, the operation recorded 37,710 sales transactions. — (menareport.com)
