The Gulf emirate of Dubai has been chosen as the site for a $23-million pharmaceutical plant that will initially target the Gulf market, a newspaper reported Sunday, November 18.

The plant will be funded by Emirati investors and the Amman-based Arabian Co. for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (Acdima), Gulf News said.

"The announcement on the formation of the UAE investors-Acdima company is due within two months. It will be followed immediately by the one-and-a-half year implementation of the plant," senior Acdima official Hussein Juma Ibrahim said.

The plant will initially manufacture medical supplies for hospitals in the region, though other Arab markets will be targeted in the future, according to Ibrahim. — (AFP, Dubai)
