Old traditional houses in the heritage district of Bastakiya in Dubai are restorted by the Historical Buildings Section of Dubai Municipality. Then they are rented out for residential and commercial purposes.
According to Rashad Bukhash, Director of General Projects Section at the civic body, some of these housing units have been rented out for residence at an unbelievable annual rental of Dh32,000. According to Khaleej Times, he said that these houses are restored under the Historical Buildings Section's architectural conservation programme and rented out to the top bidders. The tenders are open to both UAE nationals and expatriates, he added.
