Company spokesmen of Dubai Properties announced on Tuesday that as part of its expansion plan for the company's Business Bay project, Dubai Creek has been extended an additional 9.8 kilometers, and will now reach the city's Shaikh Zayed Road.

Upon completion of the Dubai Creek extension project, according to Khaleej Times, the creek will stretch to 13.1kilometers. At its widest, the creek will measure 500 meters.

The expansion project on the creek is being carried out in several phases. Phases 1 and 2 span Doha Street and Shaikh Zayed Road, and connect the extension to the Creek's former head at Ras Al Khor. Phase 3, located between Oud Metha Road and Doha Street, will reportedly be completed shortly.

"The Creek extension initiative is progressing on schedule," stated Hashim Al Dabal, CEO of Dubai Properties.

"The extension is part of Dubai Properties' vision to restore the commercial importance of the Creek, and link it with the new business and financial corridor of Business Bay and Shaikh Zayed Road," Al Dabal added.

The entire expansion project of Dubai Creek is expected to be completed some time before 2007 according to industry experts.
