Dubai Cable Company (Ducab) has completed a major expansion worth over 120 million Emirati dirhams ($32.6 million), for upgrading the manufacturing capability of its two Medium Voltage (MV) cable-manufacturing lines, stated a press release.
The upgrade of the second manufacturing line installed in 2001 and devoted solely to the manufacturing of 11kV and 33kV cables, has resulted in doubling Ducab's capacity for manufacturing medium voltage cables.
Ducab entered the medium voltage cable segment in 1999 with the delivery of its first commercial production of MV cables in early 2000. Since then it has steadily increased its MV production achieving a market share of 35 percent in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), winning several long term supply contracts from utilities like DEWA, FEWA, ADWEA in the UAE and Kahramaa in Qatar.
Ducab has two manufacturing lines currently in operation for its major product categories of 11kV and 33kV medium voltage cables. Some of the specialized features of the line include X-ray monitoring of the thickness of the installation of all three layers of cables in the triple extrusion process and guaranteeing 96 percent concentricity of the cables. The concentricity gives the best possible product for fault-free installation.
Ducab has also constructed a high tower enabling material conveyance by gravity feed directly from sealed box, preventing any contamination. The latest expansion at Ducab has included the installation of modern MV and HV testing facilities that enable the product to be tested at various stages of the manufacturing process, to ensure that the end product is in accordance with the desired specifications.
Established in 1979, Ducab is the first purpose built cable manufacturing company in the UAE and is owned by the Government of Dubai and Government of Abu Dhabi. Its product range covers low voltage power cables, control and auxiliary cables, wiring and lead-sheathed cables in addition to Ducab Powerplus medium voltage cables (up to 33 kV) and Ducab Smokemaster cables. — (menareport.com)
