Dubai Cable Company (Ducab) announced recently that it has completed the first phase of the Six Sigma Quality improvement program. Ducab became the first company in the Middle East to implement this program with Motorola University. The Six Sigma program was first devised and implemented at Motorola and is now offered worldwide through Motorola University.

“We are constantly upgrading and enhancing the existing processes in our organization to create best practices across the entire spectrum of the manufacturing, sales and marketing processes,” said Colin Paskins, Managing Director, Ducab. “The Six Sigma quality management program is a measure of quality that strives for near perfection, by eliminating defects in any process and will go a long way towards helping Ducab achieve its objective of furthering its reputation of being a truly quality driven organization that places the needs of its clients at the top of its list of priorities.”

The objective of the Six Sigma Quality process is the implementation of a measurement-based strategy that focuses on process improvement to reduce the output variation to six deviations, between the upper and lower limits of customer specifications. This is accomplished through the use of two Six Sigma sub-methodologies: DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) and DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify). The statistical representation of Six Sigma describes quantitatively how a process is performing. A Six Sigma opportunity is then the total quantity of chances for a defect. To achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities.

At Ducab, the program has been given a jump-start with a training program for all key managers followed by the intensive training and appointment of five dedicated Six Sigma Black Belts to oversee the implementation of the program at various levels in the company.

Established in 1979, Ducab is the first purpose built cable manufacturing company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is owned by the Government of Dubai and Government of Abu Dhabi. Its product range covers low voltage power cables, control and auxiliary cables, wiring and lead-sheathed cables in addition to Ducab Powerplus medium voltage cables (up to 33 kV) and Ducab Smokemaster cables. Ducab is also the distributor of Ducab Connect cable accessories. — (menareport.com)
