The Egyptian minister of higher education and scientific research, Mofeid Shehab, recently stated that the Egypt's allocated budget for scientific research reaches 600 million Egyptian pounds ($153.8 million) for the fiscal year 2000/2001, according to Al-Ahram daily.

This figure reflected a 60 percent increase compared with the previous fiscal year’s budget. Shehab added that the number of applicants to universities is expected to significantly grow this year, as a result of the rising number of secondary school graduates. ― (MENA Report)
