Egypt is the world's ninth biggest exporter of oranges, a report released by the Egyptian Cabinets Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) said, adding that orange exports amounted to US$ .54.18 million in 2003, say 2.18 per cent of the total global figures.
Egypt exports to 49 major markets, five of which accounted for nearly 74 per cent of the exports, the report explained, describing the figure as "humble", as there are more market opportunities.
The report advised local orange producers to focus more on exports to countries like France, Germany, Holland and Britain.
It pointed out that the total orange exports worldwide reached $2.745 billion in 2003 with a rate of growth valued at 7 per cent from 1999 to 2003.
