A new pipeline will soon be constructed to export Egyptian natural gas to Jordan and Syria through the Gulf of Aqaba, a recent report in Cairo’s Al-Ahram stated. An additional agreement was recently signed with Lebanon for the same purpose.
The Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Mohamed Halyqeh, said that a company would be set up in each of the participating countries in order to maintain the pipeline project and to provide the necessary investment services.
Turkey, as well, has previously held talks with Egypt regarding the importation of Egyptian gas. Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Cumhur Ersumer has reaffirmed the importance of such a deal, so that Turkey’s growing energy demand can be met, as well as supplying fuel for re-exportation to European markets. –(MENA Report)
