Egyptians uncover biological water treatment

Egyptian researchers uncovered a new technique of biologically purifying water at a recent US conference, reported Al-Ahram. Based on the use of organic substances such as plants and bacteria, the new treatment for sewerage water is currently being put to use in the northern coastal lakes.  

 

Egypt consumes a total of 66.34 billion cubic meters of water annually, 55.5 billion of which come from the Nile River. An additional 20 billion cubic meters will be needed by 2017. — (Mena Report)
