Setting a benchmark in the Arab World, Emirates Airline is now offering Emirates-On-Line, a new e-commerce service that allows UAE residents to book airline tickets via the company's website (www.emirates.com).

The service allows prospective travelers to check Emirates flight schedules, fairs and availability, but only UAE residents bearing valid credit cards may conveniently execute on-line bookings. Though currently limited to 50 destinations serviced by Emirates Air, the company is expected to link the service to its other destinations in the coming year. The on-line service may be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Once "e-booked," tickets can be sent to the purchaser's address of choice, or can be collected at the airport or Emirates office. Meal requests, seat preferences and other instructions may also be emailed to the Emirates' reservations department in Dubai, Middle East Information reported.

Emirates Air, the pioneer of on-line booking in the Arab world of airlines, already boasts international Internet-based cargo bookings, and a large e-business unit within the company's IT division. As the airline's website indicates, more online services can be expected in the near future.

Emirates Airline's Chairman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum announced, "Emirates-On-Line signals another major Web-initiative in direct support of the Dubai Government's mandate to strengthen the E-commerce ability of businesses in Dubai...I envisage that E-commerce will play a much bigger role in Emirates Airline, as we continue to harness the advantages of technology to fuel our growth." He added that resort and holiday booking services may soon be offered online.

Vic Sheppard, Sales Manager for Emirates Air in the UK and Ireland stated, "Business travelers remain a crucial part of the air transport industry, and Emirates Air will strive to meet the demand of these passengers, with increased standards and services." Winning OAG Worldwide's Travel Award as the best airline for the third consecutive year this January, Emirates Air now offers flights to Sydney, Bahrain and Milan.
