The Sharjah-based Alpha Kreol company has been awarded a management and retail supply contract for the duty free shops at India’s Cochin International Airport. The ten-year contract will come into effect by mid-May.

Alpha Kreol, which is a 50:50 joint venture between Kreol Trading and Alpha Retail, has injected $2.2 million into the project thus far. The shop will have two separate outlets; one located in the arrival lounge and the other in the departure lounge, at the terminal’s last check out point.

With the exception of the new Alpha Kreol deal, the state-run India Tourism Development Corp (ITDC) monopolizes India’s duty free industry. The Cochin airport was the first international airfield in the country, its ground handling carried out by Air India. — (menareport.com)
