US Robotics’ SureConnect 9000 ADSL USB modem will now be sold through major retail outlets across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This product is the first ADSL modem to be made available off-the-shelf to consumers, after receiving the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat)’s approval in October 2002.
The modem will be distributed in Quality Computers showrooms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain and Sharjah. More retail outlets like Carrefour and Compume are also likely to store soon. This will give users in homes and small to medium businesses access to connectivity speeds from 384 Kbps up to eight mbps depending on approved bandwidth by Etisalat.
Etisalat is a provider of communication solutions, offering multimedia and value added services in fixed line and GSM, Internet services and e-commerce solutions. It's divisions and subsidiaries include smart cards and related solutions, data clearing house, contact center, submarine cable laying and maintenance services, several international submarine cable links, an international Internet exchange, academy and college and cable TV.— (menareport.com)
