An explosion ripped through a major gas pipeline in southwestern Iran but there was no report of any casualties, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.
It said the cause of Saturday's blast was not yet known and that local authorities in the Khuzistan province closed off roads in the Gachsaran region for several hours to prevent any fires or further damage.
Officials also switched off the four-inch (10-centimetre) pipeline, which is used to inject natural gas into oil wells in the area, one of the Islamic republic's leading petrochemical regions, IRNA said.—AFP
